shaking knees
racing hearts
bated breath…

when we were young our lives seemed so big. the world was poised to collapse, life hung by an individual action. universes contained in a single look, a name called, a hand clasped. but as we grew big, life grew small — not less complicated, just small. like an old photograph shrunk and airbrushed almost to oblivion.

when we were young things felt like they meant something. what is worse, to give things more weight than they deserve or to allow the days to rush on, barely disturbing the air around your cheeks as they pass by?
