I think we are drawn to misery. Well, drawn and repulsed by it. There’s a reason why the great books aren’t about Sam Hamiltons, Razumikhins, or even Contantin Levins. Who wants to read about people of great character and strength dealing with their problems with grace and composure? No, give us Adam trask, Raskolnikov and Anna Karenina please.
